We had a busy couple of weeks visiting these awesome places! Our first was Valley of Fire that we hit on our way into Vegas from Zion National Park. We rolled up with house in tow and spent several hours marveling at the beauty of this place. It was beyond my expectations!
We chose to do a hike that was not too long or difficult. As we progressed down the trail, other hikers notified us that the trail was flooded and not passable through the slot canyon. Well, we obviously like a good challenge! LOL We got to the canyon and promptly walked in with socks and shoes on and waded knee deep in the water at the deepest part. It appeared no one had tried to cross yet that morning as the entire slot canyon was full of water. After we entered in, others followed suit.
The boys decided that they had NO desire to get their feet or socks and shoes wet, so they opted to climb the canyon to avoid the water. They did a great job and had fun doing it. It was quite a ways across, but they did it! It was one of our more adventurous hikes because of this challenge. We had a blast!
This place was amazing. The textures of the rocks are so cool. You can totally see why it’s called Valley of Fire. Amazing! After our wet slot canyon, we explored some more while our shoes dried out. There’s so much to see.
After being in Vegas for a week or so for a conference, we headed back out for a day to hit Hoover Dam and Lake Meade. Hoover Dam is a true marvel of technology. This thing is built to last 2000k years and the concrete is not completely cured! Lake Meade was a nice way to cool off on a warm October day in the desert.
We rounded out our busy couple of weeks by investigating Red Rocks Canyon just outside Las Vegas. We took another hike to get a feel for the place. It was a rather warm day as it tends to be in the desert of Nevada. It was a beautiful place and we really enjoyed it! Absolutely beautiful!!!
These amazing places are fantastic day trips from Las Vegas and they are family friendly. if you find yourself in Vegas and not interested in the”Vegas” things, definitely check these places out! We loved Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam so much that we visited twice 🙂
